How to take back your year: Last 90 days challenge

Spread the love

That brisk fall breeze started flowing into New Orleans this past week, and the days have been just so beautiful. Finally a reprieve after a hot and stormy summer. Fall is in the air, and I am loving it.

With the change of season, I think it’s the perfect time to reflect on where we’re at and where we’re going.

2020 has been rough. A global pandemic, economic volatility, civil unrest, hurricanes, wildfires, and election drama.

I hear so many people saying, “I just want to get to 2021 and start over.” Like there’s no point in trying anything in 2020 because it’ll surely fail like the rest of the year.

Are you in this slump?

If you are, I want you to check in with yourself. Where are you at—physically, mentally, emotionally? What goals did you set at the beginning of this year? Which ones have you checked off? Which ones fell to the back burner as the pandemic stole your energy for months? Which ones do you still want to achieve?

The thing is that you still have a whole quarter of a year left and there is so much you can accomplish in 90 days! Start your healthy habits now so that you enter the new year strong.

I’ve heard experts in personal development say that you can make any day your new year. January 1st is an artificial date that we choose to celebrate because math and science helped us design a calendar to keep track of time many many years ago. But you can start a resolution anytime. It doesn’t have to be a natural transition point. Or if that totally boggles your brain, remember that October 1 was the start of the Fiscal Year, so technically, it is a new year.

I’m challenging you now to take back your year. Here’s how I’m doing it.

This year, I signed up to participate in Rachel Hollis’s Last 90 Days Challenge. It’s based around what she calls “5 to Thrive.”

For the last 90 days of 2020 I’m:

  1. Waking up at 5:05 AM on weekdays and 7:00 AM on weekends.
  2. Drinking 60 ounces of water each day.
  3. Doing at least 30 minutes of some form of exercise every day.
  4. Cutting out caffeine and alcohol on weekdays.
  5. Writing 5 simple things I’m grateful for each day.

They say it takes 30-40 days to make a habit, so I’m sure the first month will be the most challenging before I settle into a routine. I’ll keep you updated as we near the end of the year.

If you’d like to learn more about the #last90days and sign up for the challenge yourself, you can do so here!

There are thousands of people who participate each year, and it’s easy to find free printable trackers with a quick Google or Pinterest search.

I hope that you’ll join me in this challenge or at the very least reflect on where you are now and where you want to be at the end of the year. Let’s live these last 3 months with great intention. Let’s take back 2020.
