I was so excited to ask my dearest friends to stand by my side on what will be one of the most memorable days of my life. These people have been some of my greatest supporters for decades and through the most challenging chapters of my life so far, so I wanted to do something special to ask them to be in our bridal party.
Nowadays, being a member of a bridal party can cost thousands of dollars in one season to travel for the bridal shower, bachelorette party, and wedding weekend events on top of getting the dress, accessories, hair, and makeup. It’s a huge ask, and one I wish I could have done in-person. Unfortunately, my list of people live in Virginia, California, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Ohio, Georgia, Hawaii, and Germany; and I live in South Florida.
I’ve seen prepared bridesmaid proposal packages on Etsy that include a couple cute gifts, but I figured that I could beat their price tag by putting things together on my own.
My goal was to create a heartfelt package of useful and fun things that could fit into a small box. I wanted to make the priority the things in the box, and limit the cost of shipping.
Believe it or not, I was able to fit 10 things in each 6x4x3 in. box.
1. Moisturising Hydrogel Eye Masks
These little packets actually come with three sets of eye masks inside. They’re aloe Vera, hyluranic acid, and vitamin E and are a great little self-care treat. You can find them in the Beauty section at Target.
2. Personalized Travel Jewelry Box
I found these on Etsy and think they’re the cutest gift. There’s compartments for rings and bracelets and little hooks to hang your necklaces on, so your jewelry stays organized and you don’t have a tangled mess to deal with when you get to your destination.
3. Smunchy
I found the Smunchy brand a few years ago and use mine all the time. These scrunchies have a hidden zipper where you can store chapstick, keys, cash, or other little things. I love them for storing my rings while I work out. They come in great fabrics and colors too. I got the satin ones for my girls, each a different color.
I am loving cute claw clips for simple everyday hairstyles, and I’m obsessed with this butterfly one. I’ve been saying I’m in my butterfly era, having earned my wings as a Coast Guard Aviator in April and celebrating the culmination of a lot of hard work.
5. Expectations Card
An idea I’d seen on Pinterest and Instagram was to include a card outlining expenses associated with being a bridesmaid. I wanted to be up front about how much it could cost to agree to being part of our bridal party. I designed the card in Canva with a newspaper theme and included things like the brand and color of the bridesmaid dress to order, the schedule of upcoming wedding events, and the costs of hair and makeup for the wedding day.
6. Personal note with photos
Because of course.
7. Personalized “Will you be my bridesmaid?” Card
I also designed these in Canva and printed them on sparkly champagne-colored cardstock I found at Target.
These smell amazing and went with the colors we’ve chosen for the wedding.
These were just decorative, but we’ll probably use the rest of the box for our flower girl to toss at the wedding.
10. Gold Butterfly
I found these on Amazon as party decor for another event I’d had a few months ago and have been using them in cards and gifts ever since.
I found these black boxes on Amazon. They come in a pack of 20, so we were able to use them for both our bridesmaid and groomsmen proposal boxes and ship them via UPS for about $12-14 each. If you’re shipping outside the continental U.S., expect to pay closer to $45.
It was so fun to put these together, and my girls loved them!
