God,
I pray for all those experiencing loss. I am sympathetic to their grief and trying to have empathy for their pain though I know I will never truly feel it in the same way.
I pray that the world may honor the legacy of those who have passed on. That we may find lessons in the way they lived and that their character may live on in our hearts.
I pray that we never forget their names—Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd (just to name a few).
I pray that police may get better training on racial profiling, unconscious bias, and the use of excessive force.
I pray that I may personally stay motivated to educate myself on these issues. That I may find resources that are truthful and helpful and that I may ask questions and have hard but productive conversations with my peers and my mentors.
I pray I may recognize and work on my own unconscious biases.
I pray that all the fires in America today burn away the toxins and make the soil rich for new life to grow.
I pray that people reach for care and compassion. I pray that we may hear each other and listen to one another. I pray that we may respect each other. That we may open our hearts and minds. That we may discuss and debate without attacking one another.
I pray that we may stop shaming people for posting on social media. I pray that we may stop shaming people for staying silent on social media.
I pray that people don’t just talk the talk, but that we also take action. I pray that we don’t just hit “like” and “share” from the comfort of our homes, but that we take a stance when it really counts.
I pray that you help me to use my creativity to find solutions and take initiative to implement change.
I pray that we, as Americans, can continue the conversation about systemic and systematic oppression in our history and ongoing today. That this conversation goes beyond this day, week, month, and season. That we may rewrite the history books to not be white-washed but instead to reflect unbiased American history. That for years to come, you will help us work towards a more inclusive future.
God, thank you.
Thank you for all that you’ve blessed me with in my life. Thank you for my amazing family. Thank you for their love and support. Thank you for my loving and caring boyfriend. Thank you for helping us keep a roof over our heads. For our financial security. For the opportunities you’ve blessed me with and the grit and perseverance to run with them. Thank you for the blessing of being born in the USA. Thank you for the safety and health of my dear friends and family. I am so grateful for the ways you act in my life each and every day.
God, I pray for hope.
I pray that you continue to provide us with symbols of hope like SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule launch yesterday and its landing at the International Space Station this morning. I pray for the safe return of astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley when they complete their mission.
I pray that you help me see these miracles in dark times.
I pray for everyone’s safety, health, and well-being—physically, mentally, and emotionally.
I pray for anyone who needs a prayer.
I pray that this post may not offend or cause hurt.
I pray that someone who needs this reads this.
God, I trust in you, and I love you.
Amen.
