Happy New Year! I hope you are having a great new beginning and finding balance as you get back into your routines.
The new year means it’s time to refresh my vision board. I like to have this done in December, but I’m a bit behind this year. If you’re in the same boat, remember that it’s never too late to set goals and intentions. Just because you might not have been ready on the 1st, doesn’t mean you have to wait until next month or next year.
Each year, I start to build my vision board by brainstorming. I set a 10-minute timer and give myself a blank page to brain dump everything I want to work on for the year. 10 minutes works for me because it’s enough time to think and process but not too much time to think beyond the realms of what’s possible to accomplish in just 365 days. The idea is to keep it to one page here. I know “everything you want to work on for the year” is a pretty overwhelming prompt, but we’re thinking big picture here. Usually when I think big, there are only 3-5 priorities or big goals that I want to focus on. Once I have those, I start to consider what else I want on my vision board. Usually I include more words than pictures because I like being able to read my intentions each morning. To me, words are more tangible than pictures when it comes to chasing goals. Here’s a screenshot of my raw brainstorm this year.
As I write out my goals and priorities, I check to make sure I have a good balance of physical, mental, and emotional goals (P/M/E). Then I write out some monthly intentions for the first 3 months of the year. For books, I like to have a balance of fiction and non-fiction books (F/N). I have a goal to read ten books, but I only have 8 listed for now. Chances are I’ll find 2 other books I want to read during the year depending on what I find at the library and what new books come out.
My affirmations stay the same each year:
- I am happy
- I am healthy
- I am strong
- I am safe
- I am worthy
- I am positive
- I am blessed
- I am thankful
- I am loved
- I am confident
- Today will be great
Next, I look for quotes that resonate with me for this year. I have a quote board on Pinterest that I use for inspiration. You can find it here.
For this years quotes, I chose ones related to chasing my aviation dreams, building a strong relationship, and expanding my yoga practice to reflect my priorities for the year.

“In praying for your future husband, don’t forget to pray for the everyday. Pray for the days where you’re sitting on the couch and talking about nothing and everything all at once, and there’s food on the stove, bills on the counter, and so much to do, but it doesn’t bother either of you because in your souls you know what you believe is the same: rooted and grounded in grace, you can smile at one another for you know you’ll be okay, and not only in adventure, but in the everyday.”
Morgan Harper Nichols
And with all the components I want to put on my board, all that’s left to do is the crafting! Check out the time-lapse of me building my 2022 vision board on Instagram @genuinesunshineblog.
Here’s how it turned out!
